Tuesday was a national holiday in Japan. I decided to go on a hike up Mount Kongo. I had assumed that it wouldn’t be snowy as the temperature was above 0 but I guess that snow sticks around for a while. It wasn’t bad though. My concern was that the ground would be slippy but the snow was reasonably fresh.

Quite a few other people had had the same idea as me and the lower part of the mountain was quite busy. I has to queue to climb the stairs. This meant I kept a steady pace.

I did the usual thing of having noodles (udon this time) in the cafe at the top and having a bit of a wander about looking at the views. The statue at the bottom of the steps by the shrine looked particularly imposing in the snow.
