The baseball team in Hiroshima are called the Carp. I have to say that I had the most fun at their game out of all of the sports matches I have been to in Japan. This is their stadium, the Mazda Zoom Zoom Stadium:

One of the good things was the good atmosphere. I was sat next to 3 Salarymen who were busying getting drunk (as was I) and a girl and her mother. The Carp ran out 10-1 winners and much fun was had by all with plenty of singing and clapping and high fives all round each time the Carp scored.

The away fans were a rather lonely bunch. I’ve seen more away fans at Scottish Championship matches. That said, the game did start at 6pm so I doubt many of their fans could make it to the stadium. Here they are:

The other thing of note was that the mascots of both teams played a game of what appeared to be boule officiated by two ninjas. Very strange.

While in the station to leave Hiroshima I noticed that you can be “Carp Curry”. I’ve no idea how good it is but maybe this is an idea that could catch on in England. Each team could sell their own food-stuff: Liverpool Spaghetti, Manchester United Prawn Sandwiches, Everton Dumplings, the possibilities are endless.
