Earlier in the month I went to watch Cerezo lose 1-0 in the Osaka derby. A bit dismal really but the highlight of the day was discovering a Ramen Festival in a nearby park on the way home.

First thing I did was have some Kakigoori or shaved ice. I’d been keen to try this as my students had mentioned how nice this is to eat in the summer. On the day in question it was quite sunny so it wasn’t out of place. It is made by shaving slices of a large block of ice (using a special machine of course). A fruit sauce is then added. It tastes very nice. Kind of like eating snow. I opted for lemon flavour (aka yellow snow).

I’m a big fan of Ramen particularly Tonkotsu Ramen with its meaty pork broth. Nothing quite as tasty was available at the festival. This isn’t surprising as it takes a day to make the Tonkotsu broth and that isn’t going to happen using portable equipment. That said the Ramen did taste nice.
