In it she talks about learning to program on a Spectrum as a child and writing a Hello World program. This reminded me of my first experience of programming as a child.<\/p>\n<p>I was programming a Dragon 32. We had the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.co.uk\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=2&amp;ved=0ahUKEwirpsXu07faAhVjIsAKHSE7BQ4QFggsMAE&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.colorcomputerarchive.com%2Fcoco%2FDocuments%2FBooks%2FDragon%2F35%2520Programs%2520for%2520the%2520Dragon%252032%2520(Dr%2520Tim%2520Langdell).pdf&amp;usg=AOvVaw217tJqVZ62yEun_jcyphL5\">following book<\/a>. I remember writing some of the shorter programs. My little fingers couldn&#8217;t manage more than 10 lines or so of code. I think the one I remember most was the Kaleidoscope program. I was amazed that I had managed to write this program that randomly drew these coloured dots all over the screen. This is despite not having a clue as to how the program worked.<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally the book starts with<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Dragon 32 is probably the most sophisticated piece of equipment that you possess.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While this seems kind of laughable now it was no doubt true at that point in the early 80&#8217;s.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m currently reading Eugenia Cheng&#8217;s book Beyond Infinity.
